Charleston
Trout: Very good. Haddrell’s Point reports that fishing has been very strong for trout early in the morni
ng. Fishing live minnows and shrimp 3-4 feet under a popping float around creek mouths and shell rakes at high tide, and around hard bottom ledges at low tide, has been dynamite. For artificial users the Trout Trick has been producing very well in addition to Zman PaddlerZ in Bad Shad and New Penny colors.
Tarpon: Good. Haddrell’s Point advises that August is prime time for South Carolina tarpon, and the reports over the last couple of weeks have been very strong. Anglers have hooked up on silver kings fishing around the jetties, North Edisto Inlet and Bulls Bay. Tarpon are opportunistic feeders but a large live mullet is a tough bait to beat.
Spottail bass: Good. Haddrell’s Point reports that fishing for tailing redfish around the evening high tides has been very strong recently, with most anglers throwing Gulp! Jerkshad and Zman Ultra Crabz. Fish can be found under docks at low water and along grass edges and shell rakes at high tide.
