Fishing Spots around HHI

I am taking a trip to Hilton Head Island next weekend and I’m planning on bringing my kayak down to do some fishing (hoping I do some catching too), but I have no idea where to put in or where any good spots are. I am hoping that somebody can share their insight on where or where not to go. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Keep it Tight!

Last summer (Aug) I spent about a month on the island and fished whenever I was free. I usually launched from the ramp right next to the Old Oyster Factory Restraunt (On Mashland Rd). It is a nice secluded area and I rarely saw any motored boats, which I prefer. I usually launched at low tide so I could catch some shrimp and mullet for bait at the ramp. Typically fished mullet or shrimp on the bottom with very light weight and casted a grub around to keep me busy. There are tons of little creek mouths and oyster beds to work. Caught plenty of little reds back there and the biggest salt cat I have ever seen. Never had much luck with trout back there, but I was happy just being on the water. Also the restraunt would play live music at night and you can enjoy it while you are fishing.

I also surf fished the north side of the island by the jettys and really enjoyed that. I have never had much luck catching flounder, but really did well using mud minnows right up against the rocks. I also caught the usually mixed bag of blues, whiting, rays, and ladyfish while using a fishfinder rig in the inlet. Never tried fishing the ocean surf, as I heard it was super shallow and had very little structure.

Good luck, keep me posted with some of your results. There are several other landings on the island and I am curious about the fishing near those too.

Thanks! Hopefully I’ll have something good to report back to you.
