OK, as a new Charleston resident and Saltwater fishing moron, what and where are the sodbanks?? Would love to be able to take my boy fishing somewhere there was a reasonable chance of success.
Thanks

look for accessible places in the marsh that yo can walk to. then, at low tide look for the patches of short grass (spartina) in the taller grass (marsh grass).Spartina will be on harder ground thus allowing you to “walk the flats”. When it floods look for fish tailing in the areas that have spartina. Marinas and public docks like crosbys on JI are good places to start as well.
Wanna fish…I know for a fact that they have been catching trout and reds…as wellas the bait snatchers that can be fun for a kid…off of the end of the new Shem creek pier…go to the far end by the creek…fish the point across from it as well as the bank to the left of it…long walk…but covered area at the end. Donnie’s brother fishes it a lot and we have fished around it by boat…also…sunrise park next to the James island yacht club…I caught three trout from it last week(we take ROO there to run) and hooked what I believe to have been a nice sheepshead…in other words…it cut me off…that is a public park with a bathroom and covered areas too…can also sometimes find a few little shark teeth on the strip of beach to the right as you go in…minnows in the tidal pool…fiddlers on the bank…

I have been seeing a bunch of good sized sheeps around the dock pilings at patriots point marina over the past few weeks. They were not 20 feet from a “no fishing no swimming” sign one day though. However, I have seen untold amounts of people fishing there. Also, at low tide you can jump down from the dock and walk along the bank.I have see people catch reds, trout, flounder, and whiting, there and have seen the sheeps picking and feeding along the pilings. What kind of fish are you wanting to target srmrfish? I maybe able to tell you exactly where to go. I dont fish from shore much but i work on boats and am near the water all the time. I always pay close attention to my nearby surroundings because its in my blood to check out all water i see for signs of fish or “fishy” looking spots. I have seen thousands of fish in doing so.When fishing places like marinas, which have restrictions on fishin, take the bare minimum amount of gear so you dont look like you are going to a fishing tournament and usually no one will say anything. In other words i would not take a pier cart w a cooler and a fold up easy chair to some marinas or they may ask you to leave.
Thanks jimmyaadams I am not that particular about what I catch but I would love to walk with my spinning rod and use artificial and especially like to use my flyrod I can cast pretty good and wind usually is not a factor for me except for the extremes like dead in your face but to your original question I guess Reds and trout would be the main ones and thank you for getting back to me oh and I also like to fish at night the same way Thanks again actually I prefer nights because it cuts down on the crowds.
