Fishing today

Pulled my minnow traps and had easy 500 fat minnows.Headed to the Wando to fish.Fished several spots and no hits on Minnows or grubs. On the way to the Cooper hit an underwater obstruction in 10-14 feet of water.Running about 45 it knocked off the bottom of the skeg and rolled the SS prop on two blades.Never saw anything???
Limped around and finally headed home.Ran ok at top speeds but vibrated pretty bad under 20mph.As far as fishing Joey caught 1 13 inch flounder and a summer trout. We caught some small whiting and called it a day.Water temp was 70 in most places. Will pull the boat out tomorrow for better inspection.

Dang Joe I’m sorry to hear that! Probably a sunken vessel or something, but it must have been hard as heck to sheef off the skeg and mangle the prop.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

On the Wando side.Right across from the terminal. There were some floats in the water close to shore looked like a pipe. However i was a good 70 feet from the floats.Think it may have been a submerged improperly marked dredge pipe?

If that’s the case Joe, sounds like some contractor owes you a new prop and some skeg work.

you might be right on the dredge pipe there all over this area, even had the coast guard stop me about a month or two ago and tell me be careful the dredgers are out.

Man that sucks! I’m not a big fan of those dredge guys. I’ve had them cut me off in the channel a couple of times. I guess because they work there they think it gives them the right to be dicks. And by cut me off I mean make me stop my boat from a plane to avoid them. Hopefully it’s not to expensive to get back on the water.

Heard on 16 a warning from coast guard yesterday about a partially submerged log in the harbor. I wonder if that was the cause.

Sorry about the boat, Joe. Glad it wasn’t worse and no one was hurt.

Sorry to hear about you boat Joe. Interestingly we also towed another vessel from same are that struck an unseen object. Engine and transom suffered significant damage.

Boat vibrated low speed so i ran it home around 3000 rpm and it was ok prop shaft is bent.I was in 14 feet of water off the bank.$500 deduct/State farm was very good calling me.I see no problems just i am land locked for at least 2 months. Not really sure when Seels will start the work.I think it was a pipe not marked at the end.We found what looked live black plastic stuck to the foot.I had to peel some off to see what it was.looked like a plastic garbage can bag???

I work for a water authority and we sink and lay concrete collars on black HDPE pipe across rivers for large diameter waterlines. It would not be impossible that a transmission line lost a collar or two and floated. It would be interesting to know if Chaleston Water had a Waterline crossing at that location. You could possibly see their maps online???

Be careful running on bent prop…could cause the shaft to warp.
