Just decided (assuming the weather holds) I’m going to fish a few hours tonight. Putting in at the dam about 9 and fishing until 12 or so.
Anyone wants to go, just send me a PM.

Man! I wish I wasn’t down here in Charleston tonight. I have been wanting to learn how to fish at night rather than just taking my boat out by myself. I would love to hitch a ride some other time.
I live with fear everday, and sometimes she lets me go fishing
I’ll let Striperskiff tell ya’ll how it was last night … but in a word … INSANE!!!
it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!

Got anchored up on a point in 50’ of water right at 10PM…only took about 10 min to draw enough bait to catch and get some lines in the water. Caught 4 fish in the first 15 min of fishing and then it was dead…didn’t last long though and when they started biting again it was on…other than a couple of short lulls, we caught fish constantly untill we packed it up at 1AM. Rick may know for sure, but I believe the total when we were done was 16 or 17 keeper size fish and at least that many shorts. They were still biting when we left.
Everything was just off the bottom in about 50’. Lots of bait in the water. By the time we left, the bait was so thick under the boat the digital readout on the FF was showing we were in 4.7’ of water.

Taking the youngin this afternoon. Hope to see the same action but we will probably be off before dark. Was gonna cut bait but don’t really feel comfortable with him in the boat while double anchored in a Jon boat so plan is to catch some bait at the dam and live bait. That will probably be a little more entertaining for him instead of sitting and waiting. Well it will be if we can find them stacked somewhere. Congrats on the good night of fishing…
That is awesome, hope to have the same luck soon. Haven’t had any bites since I caught a bunch trolling over a month ago.
Question about your sonar, I keep seeing these graph pictures with so much detail, my Garmin set on auto never gives me anything like that. Do you set the frequency really sensitive to get a good read on fast moving fish?

3ish hours of … Catching …
11 keepers taken home …
8 keepers thrown back …
2 broken off (technically 3 but 1 didn’t count as a break off because we caught him again and was able to retrieve the first hook) …
20+ shorts thrown back …
We started off with 6 lines in the water but we could only keep up with three …
The bait was so thick under the boat that the depth finder registered us in 5-6 foot of water even though we were in 47foot of water …
In this shot you can see where a couple of Striper were reed up though the bait … awesome!!!
We eventually had to leave because … well … we have day jobs …
It was a great few hours of fishing … er … catching …
Thanks Striperskiff for taking us along for the ride!!!

I don’t have a Garman, but I don’t do too much adjusting from auto settings for striper fishing the lake. It’s not like offshore where you might be looking for live bottom, which takes more tuning. I set the sensitivity maually, but thats about it. I even mostly leave the depth on auto and will zoom in on the bottom when I want. Also, I do manually set the depth when fishing suspended fish in the summer in deep water by setting an upper and lower limit so I’m only viewing the range I care about…hard to tell much detail when you’re viewing 100+ ft of water on a 4" screen.
I would definately try manually adjusting the sensitivity. Turn the sensitivity up high and try dropping your bait down to the bottom back by the transducer. You should be able to see the sinker dropping down. Then crank it a ways off the bottom. Try adjusting it to where your sinker barely shows as a faint steady line. Jig it up and down and see if you can see it move on the screen.
Edited to add a pic I had on my phone. Kinda fuzzy, but this shows what I was talking about. That straight line at about 42’ is my sinker.
