Bought my first top water plug today and plan to try it out early tomorrow morning. Any advice on where to throw the plug (super spook jr.) I’m still a novice in salt, but eager to catch some big reds. Should I throw it over oyster beds? Along the grass? Or just across a creek. Im fishing from a dock. Thanks.
usually work it down the shoreline at low light (early morning, dusk, cloud cover. but back in the day when that first blow up happened, i threw it all day anywhere, just lookin for that explosion. now i pretty much just work one at low light and high tide. but make no mistake, fish will crush that thing at any tide and time of day. that ss jr. in bone color use to be one of my favorite plugs. now my first choice is a skitterwalk in trout pattern.

My all purpose spook jr is the crome and black. I usually change the hooks on them though because the big reds will straighten them out.

I’m officially sold on Topwater!! First time with it this morning I caught a 24 1/4 inch red!! Most exciting bite in a while.

Dang, you’re first topwater outing and you get a red? Took me a couple years to get one. Granted this year, I’ve caught more reds on topwater than trout. Nice work!
Beginners luck I’m sure! It was probably the coolest bite I’ve ever had.

Got my first top water red this year too. And he was tagged!! I had two blow ups within 15 min of each other and was only able to get one. I like the chartreuse w a black head spook.

Congratulations you are now officially hooked. I switched from the spook jr,'s to the Badonk-A-Donk. Little wider gap on the hooks and better quality hooks as well. Definitely improved my strike to hook-up ratio. Stonoman you are very nice to offer those to him.
Been fishing hardcore for yrs. and don’t remember ever catching one on topwater. Cangrats!
