Does anyone know how it went? I wanted to go but the wife had a bunch of friends over who wanted to try kayaking.

The tournament got canceled. I went there to conduct the Capitan’s meeting on friday which was scheduled for 5:00pm. When I got there I spoke with my contacts from CCPRC and they told me that if anyone was going to show up that we would have the mtg under the green and white tent. 5:30 rolled around and I had no one so I took off. I went the next day spoke to CCPRC and found out that they had sent me to the wrong place and 4 people had shown up; when they couldn’t find me they comped those folks who showed up a couple of weekend passes. The whole thing flopped due to several reasons. One there was a significant lack of advertising, I posted here and there was mention in the festival flyer but that was about it. Two, online registration was made available but it was VERY difficult to find on the CCPRC site. Three, I can’t say that CCPRC didn’t send out sponsorship request forms because I wasn’t there but I know that several of the shops in town that were supposed to recieve letters adn didn’t therefore we had no prizes specifically for the event. They told me Wednessday before the event that if we had enough folks show up to the mtg friday night that they would give me a kayak from the raffle pool. I will discuss future plans for this event in another post.

…“MarkBob”, in the future, please contact me. Although I’m in Beaufort, I’d be more then happy to help with a benefit “Kayak Fishing Event”.
Thanks paddlin4reds, I will.

…your welcome
I wish I had known it was cancelled before I took off early from work Friday afternoon and drove all the way over to James Island for the captain’s meeting. I showed up for the fishing tournamment along with a few others. We decided to have our own tournament since for whatever reasons the “organized” tournament didn’t seem to work out.
rshackleford1, man I appologize. I did my best and hind sight is 20/20 I feel like I should have taken on some of the things that CCPRC “did” and all I can tell you is that I am working on some stuff for next year. I hope to have some good news to post up soon. I have some research to do concerning us becoming a little more official and obtaining club insurance and such. When I have a better idea of what we need to do I will post up and get everyones heads together to make this work as well as possible for all of us.

The only thing that I thought we might do with CCPRC again is to put on some kayak fishing classes at the festival next year. I thought that maybe one of us could give a class on dealing with pluff mud and wind and stuff like that, another on rigging a yak for fishing and maybe one on SOT rescue if we have anyone qualified to teach it. Any ideas are appreciated.
