Does anyone know of a good spot to take a 6 year old fishing? He prefers to stay at home and play videogames, but I want to take him fishing with me with the hopes that he will start liking it and we could be fishing buddies. After several weeks of trying to get him to go with me he finally agreed to. He enthusiastically said that he wanted to catch a shark and asked if he could kiss it on the nose like I do. I know that fishing is all about patience and sometimes you don’t catch anything at all, but I think he might like it if he can quickly catch a little shark. I just want to broaden his horizons and introduce him to different hobbies and interests. If he doesn’t like it, I won’t force it on him, but I’d like for him to at least give it a fair shot. I will of course take crab baskets and my cast net so that at least something will be going on to entertain him.
From boat or bank?
Anywhere near the ICW in a boat for sharks.
Surf fishing on the beach is always good, because they can play in the water while you’re soaking bait.
It’s tough to battle with kids’ boredom while on a boat fishing, so I always take a couple sodas and some candy and snacks that my son doesn’t get to eat at home. I don’t take any video games or anything, because I don’t want him expecting that when we go. I change baits a lot when we go, and my son gets to catch mud minnows or shrimp with the dip net (another boredom-fighting strategy).
I always take him on a nice, long boat ride after fishing spotting dolphins, birds, etc. It just adds to the experience and memories.

I battled many of the same issues pinkfisher. Always carry a medium weight setup with 20# powerpro and some 1/0 (circle hook) rigs on about a 12" leader with a 1/2 oz egg sinker. Bait that up with cut squid or a small piece of shrimp. Put that out near some structure and it will get tore up all day.
Like Hoof asked, is this from a boat or bank. Many bank spots are fished heavily and don’t produce consistently. If you are interested, PM me and I can give you a spot or two that are pretty good from the bank.

If you are able to go by boat I would look up around the inlets above Isle of Palms. There are some good deep holes up there that hold sharks pretty consistently.

I don’t have a boat, just a small kayak. He did tell me that I should have bought a boat before I bought my house that way I would have had plenty of money to buy him a boat. Somebody is spoiled rotten! He goes back to his mom next week so I hope he gets fond memories and be excited about it next year when we get to see him again. Thanks for all the advice, guys!
I’ve got three kids - my son (17) who loves to fish more than I do, my daughter (15) who says ‘call me when you have something on the line’ and my youngest daughter (13) who is just as happy catching bait fish as she is catching reds and trout. The youngest is the first to get bored when nothing is biting, so I always keep a lite rod with a small hook ready for catching pinfish and such. Keeps her entertained and we use the bait for catching ‘better’ fish.
I sent you a mail.Next time let me know.We will get him out.
