I’m taking the kids this Saturday (weather permitting) on the canoe in the folly area. Does the catch limit change if you take kids? Could I keep 9 reds since it’s 3/person/day? This is all theoretical because the probability of me catching fish is very low.
I believe so yes

A call to the DNR would be your best option.

Creel limits are set “per person”
While they do not declare it in the Rules and Regs on their site it could be argued that any human being would fall under the “per person” category regardless of age. The only limit would be on who needs a license.
So, as long as they are human you can include them in your creel limit.
This is just my opinion.
If three people are fishing, you can keep 3 reds per person. The only time, I would think, this would not apply would be if you had a non licensed adult on board.

By letter of the law, the kids are supposed to catch their own. It’s a “per person” limit. That being said, I have never heard it being enforced with such scrutiny. I probably wouldn’t try it with a kid that couldn’t at least hold a rod (1 year old).
Thanks guys!
Friogatto, they are indeed human children.
This particular trip wasn’t too fruitful. Got out there later than I’d hoped which is common with kids. People were posted up in the spots I wanted to try and it’s tough to scout on a canoe. We found a shell bank and the kids swam and had a good time. I stood around with a fishing pole. 9 fish was not in my cards that day. I did find another creek to try though.
I always took my kids many years ago, the youngest could set the hook but couldn’t real them in. To me that counts
