Fishing with my Daddy..Donnie and <Roo>

Moms birthday was this week so we decided to make a day of it…go do a little fishing with my daddy, …it had been way too long…and I took along dinner and dessert for that afternoon for mom.

Weather man called for “light and variable winds with mild temps in the upper 60’s”. I dont know where he was talking about…or what he calls “mild, light and variable” but it wasnt here! The day got colder as the morning passed and the wind blew a gale with white caps rolling through even the smaller creeks.
We decided to do some scouting to see if there were any shrimp to be found…and we checked at least 7-8 places with about three hours of net tossing by me. Daddy laughed at me casting as the wind seemd to think I was playing a game of toss…and would take my ten foot net and sent it and a bucket of spray back at me every other cast! I was soon soaking wet despite my bibs…and my jacket that I had carefully removed to “keep dry”, blew into the bottom of the boat and got a soaking too. The casts were many…and the shrimp few and far between. Never did find them bunched up…but did find enough to use for bait. Thats not saying much as the one trout…yes I said one trout… caught…(by me:smiley:) must have been a straggler too. And it was caught on a grub. Daddy caught three crabs…but he said thats because he is a “crabber”…and donnie caught a hang and a nap I think:smiley:
Checked out all of the places we usually find at least a few shrimp and I really think the big tides have flushed what little was there before… out to the ocean. I casted…and casted…and casted. At one place we stopped I laughed and told daddy, " I can tell you where 38 foot of water is in this hole( we were sitting in 15’) by looking at the landmarks …and will even tell you what I will catch when I throw the net". Ever the one to challenge me he said, “well lets see you do it then” So I get up on the bow and size up my surroundings…and point straight ahead. “Go until I tell you to stop” I say. He does and when

Thanks for the pics!

Oh so nice Penny, thanks. Roo continues to impress. A port-a-potty user huh?

With all the tire mishaps and lack of fish and shrimp, still sounds like a superb day on the water, sometimes those kind of days make the best memories.
