fishing with my daddy..late report

So despite the weather again being against us…daddy and I went fishing Saturday. Wind was supposed to be 5-10 and temp of 60…old man wind decided to puff a little harder and blow some colder weather in on us too…and I quickly regretted turning down the offer of donnies coat when he decided to hang at the house again with mom and Roo instead. He said he didnt want Roo to get too cold…yeah right:wink:. Water temp was 50-51 in most places and clear along the shores. Plain and simple cut to the chase …we again never got a bite. in fact…didnt even catch a hang much less a fish. Saw only two other boats out there and they too hadnt caught anything. Tried creeks and even ran across the bay to cowpen dock and the lighthouse…zippa-nada. Couldnt help but laugh. I told daddy that the fish just feared them so much word had gotten out and they went to bulls bay. He said that they didnt know him anymore…and was kinda down about it…but we got a chance to shoot the breeze…share a lunch and me get some more stories and sayings"bubby style"…which always leave me laughing like crazy. I said …“Im sorry we didnt catch anything.”…he said…well it cant always be like icecream." :flushed::flushed:??? what I asked…and he said that was a old saying. I think he made it up as he had that twinkle in his eyes. Made him take me to the cowpen dock to scout for some fiddlers and maybe find a sheep hanging out…man that dock had a new paint job that was still wet…bird white wash!!..and you could smell it before you even got there. we still gave it a try with no luck…and both thought we reeked of essence of pelican when we left:smiley:. Gave up and went to tong some oysters for a backyard oyster roast. Man…daddy makes it look so easy with his popeye arms:smiley:. what a blast we had…and the oyster were deeeee-licous! had a few in the creek too…fresh on the shell…“Daddys skiff side” restaurant:smiley: ok…heres some pics for those of you who are bored…
Saw a nice young man in a flats boat at the ramp…asked about the fish

I assume the time with dad was way more important than catching any fish. nice shots of pelican watching, oysters, dad napping and etc… family outings are always enjoyable.

Thanks again Penny for the awesome pics and letting us into your life! The pic of the pelican head-on is just begging for some kind of caption though!

Can’t wait to get back down and do some of the bestest oysters that are on this planet!!

Looks like all you really needed was Roo spotting for you

There you go again makin’ me grin like an idiot! Your pictures are truly worth a thousand words. Thanks for sharing, as always.

Great pics as usual Penny!

Thanks! Those pelicans followed us around all day! I think they remember daddy form running his crabpots and are looking for a free meal! Tose varmints will land right in the boat and snatch a frozen hadden bait in a minute…and poop on you as a final insult as they fly away!
That to tonging for oysters is rewarding work…but hard! Daddy said you use to could get a pair of tonged…the head and the wood shaft handles…for forty five dollars! Now the heads are two hundred plus…and the handles about a hundred. He makes his own handles.

Great report and pictures.

Were those juvenile oysters? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. That’s pretty neat.

Those oysters look fantastic. I wish my dad could pick them like that. I’d take him fishing more often if he could.

Thanks. I always enjoy your reports!

Deep water oysters…found n the drop off of a bank…or middle of a creek with live bottom.

Great read & picks as always. The oyster minner is a blenny…which are really cool little fish with a lot of personality if you ever get a chance to check one out in an aquarium…they like to hop around and almost seem to be walking on their fins.

great story with pics. thanks. what camera are you using at present. i sorta thought you got a new one about a yr. or so ago. jan

First and only pair of tongs that i bought, your father pulled up and was watching me work them(or i should say them working me). He told me that i needed to go with him one morning for lesson, never did take him up on the offer; probably worried that he would work me to death.

What do pelicans taste like?

Great Story & Pics as usual.
You need to combine all of these in a book - “Life w/ Daddy”.
Great Memories.

Good Job!:sunglasses:

Glad to see you didn’t leave Roo out haha, those are some monster oysters

pelican tastes like a cross between a bald eagle and a spotted owl

Lol…thanks . I don’t think there’s enough meat n a pelican for a meal…even if you were hungry enough or had to eat one… They are light. And mostly feathers.

Jan…a lot of my pics are taken with a older canon G9… Man I love that camera…been through countless boat trips and has taken a beating. Point and shoot with a built in only zoom lens. I got a nice canon rebel eos/xsi. With three lens. Have yet to figure out how to use it…and scared to death of dropping it. Lot easier to snatch up the one I can hold one handed and snap snap…but would love to learn to use the other one . The pelicans on the dock and lighthouse eats e
We’re with the eos…the close ups of pelicans, daddy, oysters were the g9. Would love to find a gently used one as a back up in case this one ever gives out on me

If we can just stop telling people.

penny, thanks. i had a g3 some years ago. got misplaced somehow. jan

It’s a plain Jane but nice canon…still has bells and whistles…but you don’t have to change a setting if you don’t want to. ,and believe me…it’s a rugged little camera.
