Was able to get out for a few hours with my dad friday afternoon, 3-7ish. Havent gotten to take my dad out fishing in way too long…he’s been fishing a lot less since he picked up golf a few years ago…anyway, fished the upper wando, windy as heck…we managed a dozen or so trout, ‘released’ a handful near the boat as well, also caught a bunch of reds from 15-25 inches lost track after 10 or so. Considering the conditions, i was happy with the action and was happy to be out on the water with dad.
The best part was near the end when I pulled up to a low flat to look for a tail or two before heading in…i staked out and waited for the tide to come in…this flat will fish at a 5.3…as we were scanning from the bow of the boat in the wind and cold…i told my dad, “you know if we see one it will be at that point 100yrds away right?”, he promtly let me know that if that was the case, i’d be wading after it solo as he was not going to get in the water since he was cold. Well…i saw a whale tale in that area and before i could finish the sentence, “there he…” pops was jumping over the bow rail with me to go after the fish! We connected and landed him, he jumped on a zman jerk shad rigged weedless…it was awesome,a 6-8# fish and FAT, around 27 inches…we had 2 more shots at fish as we were wading back to the boat but didnt connect on those. All in all, it was a great trip out in crappy conditions. Fish were caught on : 1 dozen live shrimp, fresh cut-mullet, doa fire tail, zman paddle in houdini, and the tailer on the jerk shad in that smoke/pearl color. all fish caught on incoming tide, NNE wind at 10-20 and we never saw the sun.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
