We’ve been in Duck N.C. on the OBX. Been fishing hard all week for Specks and Reds. Needed some more bait, stopped at the local fish market…I COULD HAVE JUST BOUGHT SOME! Thought it was so funny, just had to share the pics. Had not really crossed my mind that most fish that we hold so sacred, you can buy up here on every corner. They sell Striper too.
Yup. The OBX is it’s own little world. Why buy it in the fish market when you can get Redfish in the resturants. No fishin, and no dishes to clean.
Do yourself a favor and go to Duck Donuts and get some fresh cinnamon ones. If you haven’t already.

Not a big donut fan Fritz, but may have to try one on your recommendation. And wow, those Specks couldn’t have been 12-13". Poor babies The Reds looked decent sized though. The Stripers looked kinda short too. I’ve been battleing cold and wind all week. Should just go to Red Drum Grill & Tap house, have a Red drum sammich with a nice lauger.
Donuts made fresh when you order them. Jase Robertson said it best, “If you’re to busy for a hot donut, then you’re to busy.”

“Speckled Trout” makes me lol [:I]
Dumb question for confirmation:
NC has a commercial fishery that allows netting for both trout and reds, true? That’s why you’ll rarely see redfish or trout on a SC restaurant menu (unless if was brought in from NC)?
What a (**() shame.
Glad SC got it right and protects these valuable resources.

Sellsfish carries them (redfish) the last I heard, and yes, they all come from NC.
The only S.C. redfish you can sell in a restaurant have to be farm raised and I only know of one guy that does it. He brings them to you live in a truck, weighs them out and then dumps them in a bucket of ice. Then the fun begins! The big issue with that is Dhec likes a sink dedicated to the cleaning of fish and looks very closely for scales that are left behind…

Some of what you said is correct, I can also bring in redfish from Panama, North Carolina, and Texas. DHEC has nothing to do with the species we sell. I get inspected twice a year plus surprise inspections, and not once has DHEC ever looked at scales in the sink and I doubt that any DHEC agent could tell the difference between a Sheephead scale in a red fish scale. SC Dnr is the governing body on which species I can have on the counter. I have to have a bill of lading for all products in my store. SC DNR does pop inspections at their leisure. They have rights to all my books, paperwork coolers ,and anyplace they feel like going in My store
