Get a call from my daddy tuesday night…“liz’a’bet”(joke he has now where he teasingly refers to me as “lisabeth” as “troy” does to the lady on that alligator hunting show–swamp people–:D)…anyhow…“liz’abet…you want to come go fish’n wid me in da morning??” …hmmmm now what do you think my answer was??
so Early tuesday morning we head out to the bay…winds starting to kick up and increased throughout the day…so we stuck to some creeks and places where we wouldnt have to cross into cowpen and take a beating in the skiff…we had some cut mullet, frozen shrimp and pulled a crab pot for some crabs…then we find a drain with minnows behind a big oyster rake…I break a crab…pop it into the minnow trap and jump out on the bank…throw it in and Im waitng when all of a sudden he yells…“shark liz’abet!! shark!!!”…and sure enough…a greedy little bonnet head had listened to his belly more than he watched the tide and was stuck up in there. :)…was still plenty of water for it so wasnt too concerned.
!0 minutes later back in the boat with a mess of minnows and we are off…
Never did find the reds or trout but found some whiting, croakers, and shark…lots of shark…couldnt stop anywhere without hooking up to one. 2nd one I hooked daddy said if I was going to play with sharks all day I was on my own…should have seen me chasing that thing around the boat and trying to snag it! Saw two tarpoon roll…a baby marsh hen out in the middle of a creek…and Im talking b-a-b-y…but it made it to shore as we watched…
forgot how much fun it was to catch whiting…and cant wait to go again…heres a couple pics…
Man Penny, if there is anyone that gets more out just being on the water I don’t know them. Keep em coming, I always enjoy your pics and descriptions of the day’s events.
If I pulled up to a dock and had a choice between going fishing with your dad in his boat, and some other dude in a shiny new flats boat, i’d ride with your dad every time.

Nice pictures, the pontoon boat does not signify change as it has been in the creek for years. It is a work boat that is run by a local that your father knows.

I know…but it does represent change to me…for years we saw only shrimp boats and “village people”…(
not the Y.-M.-C—AAA kind:sunglasses:)…knew everyone we saw…now its not the case…and the pontoon boat just looks strange whizzing by with all those folks on board…but then again I probablly look strange to them too when they see a girl covered with pluff mudd, fish slime and looking like a boy:smiley:
Too Funny about the Liz-a-bet thing Pen!!!..Last Sunday morning when I was heading up the Wando at Day break, I found myself yelling Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah…like Troy does on that gator show!!..LOL…LOL…LOL…:-)…Great post again…thanks for sharing!!!

Pen, thanks for your ‘Dad’ posts. I’m land locked with disk problems in my neck and won’t be able to get on the water until late summer. Somehow, your posts communicate the marsh and relationships in a special way. 'Makes waiting a little more tolerable. Thanks.
Love these pics and stories of fishing with your Dad for sure! Allways makes me think of the time I spent on the water with my own Dad and brings a big smile to my face all day!

penny, saturday the 4th we went fishin for shark and all day when we caught a fish, my neighbors dad would yell “SHOOT EM, LIZ’ABET, SHOOT EM!” so i think its so ironic that your daddy said that when my neighbor’s daddy was sayin the exact same thing!!
i really enjoy your posts with your daddy. i can tell your daddy loves you just as much as you love him.

Good for you…and you will treasure these times always…I promise! Keep up the good fishing…and hope you dont show me up too bad when we finally meet
