Fixing chipped powder coating

Any recommendations on local Mt. Pleasant/Charleston people to fix powder coating that is chipping off in a couple places?

that’s a concern of mine when ordering my new boat. I had it brought to my attention and brought it up to a guy @ Palmetto Boat Sales. He said they have a no ring/no watch rule on their boat for that reason. Let me know what you find out so I’ll know in the future.

There are a couple of powder coating shops in the North Charleston area. Being that powder coat is electrically charged to the surface and then baked to complete the process, they might have to do an entire area to achieve a good finish. Let me know what you come up with.

I had some areas on mine and manufacturer sent me a spray. Sand the bad spot, prime and spray this one. Some work, not perfect but worth doing for me. Got some more to do this winter. Probably just good for touch ups, not redoing a large area.

Its an Omni Pak Laquer Blend with color matched per manufacturer spec. And the primer is Zinc Chromate bought at NAPA.

Powder coat chips are very difficult to repair well, without re-coating the entire surface. A good primer and epoxy paint holds up better and is much easier to spot repair.

I used sandpaper, primer, white spray paint until I finally ripped it off and built a new one…
