Fla Going Non Compliant

On Red Snapper regulations within the boundaries of state waters?

Anyone have any information on this? Heard it was out to 9 miles. Too bad all we catch is BSB to nine miles. Maybe SC should go noncompliant on BSB.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Interesting concept… What is the impact to them?

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Don’t know anything about it. I saw this on the Classic Mako site and thought it was interesting. Figured maybe someone else knew a little more about it.

Even if the fish are harvested in state waters they count against the recreational quota so that means federal waters would close even quicker or never open at all. The nine mile limit for state waters in florida only applies in the Gulf of Mexico.

For clarification I was speaking about black sea bass not red snapper. you would be hard pressed to catch a red snapper in state waters. Sorry for the confusion

There are tons of ways around this bs. Hell the state could establish their own limits and only check bag limits with the three mile state boundery. How about simply de criminalizing it.? Making possesion of sea bass during federally closed seasons a 10 dollar fine.

S4G hit the crux of the problem. More apropos, how would it impact S.C.?

If the atlantic coast state waters of Florida and other states were open all the time, the federal quota would be caught or exceeded and federal waters in the SA would never open for BSB. A lot of BSB are caught in SC state waters so I guess we could keep fishing for them year around, if the state decided to allow it, we just would not be able to go into federal waters to land them. The recreational catch is estimated by shore based and telephone surveys so people would be reporting them even when federal waters were closed and they would still use those numbers for the harvest estimate.

This is precisely the problem with taking such measures. Personally, I believe we must start pushing back, and the resulting reductions in federal seasons are worth the sustainability of state’s rights. I am now in negotiations with DNR to accomplish this goal. I cannot give you the details yet, but I am working on doing something. The question I have is: will the fishermen support me and the bill, even if it results in a reduction in the federal season or bag limits?

I will support any measure that helps us push back. I think that should include the states changing the way they enforce these foolish, imoral laws.

I support anything that allows the state to monitor or regulate the waters off it’s coast.

I have heard te first thing the Feds cut is highway funding which in turn kills economic growth for the state,so basically they extort them to comply…just how it was explained to me…makes since…

I think that the word "extortion" is a great way to describe the Federal government's involvement with the states nowadays...
