Took Oh Boy, the Bug Catcher, Pepe Lane, and TQUSMC22 and Cpt Robin out Sunday looking for lobster. Slim pickins so we shot some cobia which came by on manta rays. Biggest 27lbs smallest 17lbs. Found a few bugs for opening day. Put ten in the boat first dive and only harvested two more the rest of the day. Oh Boy’s first lobster season…think he had a good time. Should’ve gone to Key West. Our regular crew down there had 70 bugs in the boat by 0700. Try again tommorow, then headed back to Jax to try to shoot some red snapper before heading back to Chas. Good day.
I’m leaving tomorrow for two weeks of fishing and lobsters, will be in Marathon on a canal, Gulf side. Lobster season starts on the 6th, but will have about 5 days to fish before we get in the water looking for bugs. I’ve been going to Marathon for 16 years now and love every minute of it.
Looks like you are having a good time. Must be nice to take all the time off. Don’t know when I’ll get back to the states, but you’ll be hunting by then anyway. Good luck in Jax’s
Later.
we stay in port st. lucey. born and raised in south fla. spent my youth growing up in the keys & everglades. we useually stay on the annex on the naval station in KW. condos are 700 per week which are a deal!We have always exceded our limit on bugs, decided to dive here this year as we did very well last year. also o boy is newley certified and the diving her is far better then in the keys. this week the viz was 80+ with little current in 80’.
don’t know the exact details of where we will fishing. just gonna be fishing with a buddy who lives down there for a day. offshore will be the first choice. if the weather offshore is bad then nearshore and backcountry fishing. basically just trying to get anything from a king wahoo sail to a snook poon permit on the line down there. then gonna dive for lobsters in the day in marathon and tarpon fish the sunset.
