Flat Friday 05/30 On The 3DogNight

Left Easley at 11:30 pm, picked up my fishing buddy in Moonville at midnight, and got to the Shem Creek boat ramp a little early at 3:30. We met up with the 3DogNight crew and were underway by 4:30. Ocean was beautiful on Friday. We rode out at 34 mph towards 226 and had lines in at the first really good weed line we found. Immediately, we got a double hook-up with a slinger and then one of the fish being the biggest of the day. I live in the Upstate so I don’t get to go as often as I like, but this was the biggest dolphin I ever saw up close. I got the honor of gaffing it. The angler was sniper7. Great fight, strong runs, just a magnificent fish. It wouldn’t fit in the boat’s fish box, so the captain had us put it in a giant, zippered “fish bag” they brought.

We caught fish at different depths from the ledge out to 1000+ feet. Really big weed patches out deep. Dolphin seemed to like yellow, and pink. In the afternoon, we switched gears to bottom fishing - a lot of fun and constant action. A combination of species were caught: beeliners, porgy, a keeper grouper, triggerfish, and a few AJ’s. Had a couple of break offs and I got a big red progy chomped by a shark. We were running low on ice, so we had to call it and head back to the dock.

Overall, one of the best days I’ve had on the water. Great guys, friends, good fisherman, great boat 24’ Sea Hunt. Thank you 3DogNight for giving a couple of Upstate guys a fantastic fishing experience. And I’ll never forget the fish pose down playing Thunderstruck on your concert class speakers passing by those restaurants and people cheering. Awesome time, thanks again. Here are a few pictures I got from Danny. Looking forward to going again!
