Flats 4/28

Conditions after work were near perfect so I dusted off the long rod.
Went 0 for 5 on reds in the grass. But had one follower, and hooked up on No.5 only to have the leader part (last years’ mono). However, I had a few questions concerning flats ‘methods’. Any advice?
Is it better to stalk the fish with the sun at your back, or in your face?
Is it better to cast to an oncoming fish, or ones that are cruising away?
Approximately, how close is too close - b/c it seems like some fish will swim right beside you while others spook from a distance. I guess this question addresses casting distance…
