Flats fishing 1/20

Went back to the same flat from the last report. Got there 2 hours before low. after 15 mins I saw a school of about 15 fish, casted ahead of them and had one follow and nibble and then swim off. saw maybe 5 schools over the period of the next two hours and caught about five. All caught on a weedless white trout trick with a very slow retrieve. Most reds were around 20 inches but my last one was 30, my personal best in charleston. I also caught a small trout by the dock at low tide which is a good sign, he was released unharmed. Turned out to be one of my best days on the flats considering nothing went wrong and I caught my best red in SC.

Good going man! I’ve only tried maybe twice a year for tailers. I want to put in a little more time on them this year if possible!

Did not know that reds would actively tail in the dead of winter. How is this activity normally affected by the seasons and the weather? Thanks

I don’t think the reds were tailing. I imagine it was just that the water was clear and calm and he could discern schools of reds working their way down the bank.
