Flats - Popping Cork?

When fishing flats does anyone recommend using a float/clacker vs. no float/clacker working gulp shrimp, etc.?

weed line yes with popping but flats I only do this when the wind is blowing and water is dirty

Thanks for the reply and info. I’ll keep trying. Seeing a few fish. Had some hits on top water plugs but nothing on my other lures pitched at 'em. Started to wonder if they needed a float to help them find my bait and I have more hits on my actual float than on my gulp shrimp trailing behind it. So far it seems the only action I get in the flat is on top water but none of those hits have come tight so wanted to start throwing gulps, etc. I’m new to the inshore game. It’s frustrating…HA~ Thanks for the pointers.

Searchin,
Try shortening your leader between poppin cork and lure when they are eating the cork.

When I experience this I have tied on a tw plug w/ the end treble removed and tied on a leader w/ whatever. It will produce, but has a tendency to get tangled. Let me know if this has worked for anyone else.

Capt Newman - I was using a 18 leader after the cork. How short would you recommend? Maybe 12"? THX

CBA843 - Good idea. I remember seeing that idea on a show one time. Not a bad idea at all. Then you have 2 baits working. Only bummer is it’s less than weedless but in open water that’s a great tactic. thx!

If the fish are finding your cork and not your lure, go way shorter than 18’’, have used them as short as 5-6inches.
The topwater/dropper rig tangles too much for me.

Thanks for that info. I would never have even thought to try that short. Thanks for the tips!
