Flats question

Are most of the wading flats that you all stalk reds on adjacent to the main rivers? I’ve found a good looking flat with exit and entrance “fingers” that floods well, has baitfish and fiddlers on it and is hard enough to walk on, but in the 3 times I’ve been there at high flood tides have seen nothing. The only catch with this flat is its WAY up a creek. Tuesday the water was pretty deep, about mid thigh. I’m guessing there are other flats that are closer creek mouth than this one. Do the reds still tail on flats way up in creeks or are they generally on ones next to the main river channels? Thanks

most flats with fish on em are close to a, “escape route” ie deeper water. mid thigh water is too deep for tailers but if there is a food source there the fish should be pushing around. but to answer your question, yes the reds do tail farther up the crreks but the larger flats closer to big water generally hold more possibilities and are larger in area. the spot you describe sounds fishy…maybe they’ll show up there in the fall
