Set up poles on the falling tide last Saturday morning near Cowpen Point. Things were looking good, water was muddy, slight wind. First couple of cast had about 20 nice sized shrimp in the net. It all went down hill after that. No less than 6 dolphins stayed in our poles for over an hour. We tried to rebait but Flipper seemed to be attracted more with fresh bait. Pulled the poles and went fishing. Caught over 1/2 cooler the day before at same location. Shrimp were hard to come by but the size was great. Long ride from the Upstate to deal with Flipper…
did you not receive the memo that flippers were team training for flipper Olympics there? synchronized bait ball collecting…tag team. I swear I think they lay low until the bait is just getting settled in. sorry this happened to you…been there done that too many times to count

We were in Mud Bay Saturday morning for the low tide. I saw flippers close by but they never made it to our poles. Made out with 3/4 cooler about 1/3 large and 2/3 small. We did however fight nets full of Menhaden all day. I don’t know if they were after the bait or the shrimp. They didn’t seem to scare the shrimp off. Probably would’ve had a full cooler if not for them.
We have had some trouble with Flipper this year also. Had someone tell me about a friend of his that threw a net over Flipper and went for a ride. Anybody ever heard of this happening? He ties the line to the boat when he throws because of it. He said he was lucky that his hand came loose because it happened so fast he didn’t know what was going on.
Someone at Buck Hall told me he was night shrimping and caught either a large shark or a flipper. Drug him for a long ways before he got the rope off his hand. His friends thought they would never find him because of the darkness. That could have been hairy.
I was deep holing two weeks ago in S. BB and netted a 2 foot wide loggerhead. He was real unhappy with my net and showed his contempt. It takes a long time to re-tape a new net. Lucky for me and the turtle I got all the net and strings off the turtle so he left clean but unhappy.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>Wow, had a friend of mine nearly get pulled out of his boat after getting a shark caught in it. Since then he uses a velcro strap to attach to his wrist. Good idea IMO.
