Float & Fish the edisto

I’m new to the area and I’m looking for some tips to take the family on a float fish and camp… Any help?

Thanks

The Edisto ain’t the place this year unless you wanna sleep in the trees. Been out of its banks all summer.

Dang… Well maybe just the float then thanks

Really would not take the family out there at all right now. It’s still over 10’ at Givhans. Let it get down to 6’ or 7’ at least.

what part of the year would be best then?

Normally any time, but this ain’t a normal year. The last several years the problem was not enough water. There were even times last year when I couldn’t float the kayak for long stretches.

Just keep an eye on the Givhans gage. Below 7’ , I would say is safe for the family as long as you don’t have any little kids or inexperienced paddlers. Anything over four you’re gonna be limited on campsites. There are a couple of big bars that would be feasible at higher levels, but only a couple, and they tend to get a lot of use.

Ideally you should take a long johnboat ride and scout it ahead of the float. If you don’t have one PM me and I’ll take you for a ride if you supply the beer.

Now that sounds like a plan! I have a crazy schedule over the next 2 weeks (Military and College). But as it clears up I’ll PM you and find a day that works and enjoy some suds.
