Hit the 7.2 this morning at sunrise. What a beautiful morning on the water. What made it even better was that my 5 year old son woke up and asked to go with me. I thought it was too early for him, but he was ready to go. Nice to have such a good fishing buddy. On our way out of the creek we saw a huge doe running through the flat. He couldn’t believe that a deer was running on water:) Once we got to the flat we saw a few tailing fish. Didn’t get any bites, but it was nice for him to see the tails. On our way in we trolled the grass line looking for trout, which is something I am trying to learn. I also wanted to get him some practice casting, so I set him up on the poling platform and let him have at it. We caught 5 little dink trout, but he was happy. I also found a nice school of about 15 reds cruising together. They were some big boys, and can’t wait to go back to try and catch them. Threw every artificial I had with no luck, and we didn’t have any bait. At 12:30 I was ready to go and he was begging me to stay! I see years of great fishing ahead of us. Sorry there are no pics, because he kept me busy. I did see a lot of people pulling in reds on on the way in. Looks like the bite is hot. Looking forward to the next outing.

Yeah my son hasn’t quite turned 4 yet (exactly a month from today) and he was up yesterday at 4:30am. We were on the water by around 6:30 and had a blast
That’s early! I was admittedly heading out for a solo trip, when he caught me leaving! Glad he did, because it made the whole day better. I won’t take anymore solo trips:)

That’s awesome good to see a large school I hope to experience that for myself this year. I was tying up some new EP Clousers (a recipe a found on another site) turned out really good hope to try them soon
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

My youngest used to wake me up to go fishing. I have many fond memories of these trips. When they reach middle school you lose them for a few years to other interests. That’s where I am now, but I’m told to be patient…they will come back. My point here is to take your kids at every opportunity possible when they are young - and get the outdoors in their blood :). Great report!
