Flooding problem

My 1999 ’25’ Johnson 2-stroke seems to be burning too much gas, and after a run to the fishing spot the motor seems flooded when I try to crank it to leave. It takes 20 minutes of pulling the cord to finial get it started. If the motor sits for an hour or two, it cranks right up. What can I do to fix this problem? The motor is connected to a portable gas tank. I have a stock gas line to the gas tank with the gas bulb close to the motor. It is not connect to a water separator.

Got the same motor on my J16. It sounds like your needle valves are not closing all the way. I’d quickly pull the carbs and check your seating gap.

When you check out the carbs, be sure the needle and seat are both in good condition, and the float(s) are empty of any fuel as they sometimes will start to have fuel intrusion. Once all is back together, you may then need to adjust the air/fuel mixture needle(external).

Good luck w/ it.
