Has anybody pulled their boat down to Florida to fish? I’m assuming somebody has. I’m debating taking my 18 Sportsman to Florida for me and my wife’s anniversary. Any suggestions or advice?
I don’t know anything about Palm Beach, but you can probably find some decent info on the Florida Sportsman forum. When is your anniversary?

A friend of mine took his 18ft Ranger down to Mosquito Lagoon a few years ago and had a blast - relatively cheap from what I recall and stayed in a place that had a covered boat slip attached with power and water. Might want to research that area

It’s June 13th. Thanks, I’ll check that forum out.
I did it this past weekend with my 22. The stream is really close to the shore in that area so you’re basically at the fishing grounds as soon as you get out of the inlet. Unfortunately I did more learning than catching this time however.

I went down there for the first time after Christmas. I chartered with angler management fishing on their center console so that I wasn’t spending days on the learning curve. The capt, Arthur and first mate (now a capt) dalton were awesome and shared with me more info than I could have imagined, i was honest with them and told them I was planning on making regular trips with my boat. Didn’t phase them a bit with their local knowledge divulging… I would highly reccomended going with them if you have never been down there I feel like it takes a lot out of the learning curve and I have been fishing a long time. Well worth the money, those guys catch the hell out of fish and to me it’s well worth the money. The best charter I’ve ever been on not based on fish catching but based on how hard the capt and mate worked all day. Also it’s nice catching sails and seeing the sandy beaches. Hope you have a good trip me I have the Capts cell number of you need it he’s a heck of a good guy

Good advise on chartering with a captain early in your trip even if you trailer your boat down.
Just a few more hours to the keys… Just saying…

Thanks for the advice. What’s the name of the charter? I would mind considering I if it helps in the learning curve. Do you do any bottom fishing while you were there?

I’ve thought of that skinneej, I just don’t know enough to give me the confidence to go the extra distance. I’ve only been to the keys once, but unfortunately didn’t fish while I was there.
It is called angler management. We kite fished the first half of the day and bottom fished the last half because we had some first timers so wanted to get them a feel for everything, caught a ton of triggers, nice red grouper and a bunch of other bottom dwellers http://anglermanagementfishing.com . I went on the 36 open with capt Arthur and he is awesome.I can’t attest for any other capts in their fleet (I think they have 4) but dalton was the mate and got his capt license not sure if he is running a boat yet but I wouldn’t hesitate to go with him either bc he’s a hell of a fisherman. I think the charter was around 1200 and worth every penny prob woulda cost more to haul a boat down by the one it was said and done. It was also a nice getaway in late dec to escape the cold and fish in 85 degree weather and blue water a mile off the beach.
quote:I could give you some direction. Honestly, Other than sailfish in the winter and swords, I always thought offshore fishing in the PB area was unimpressive unless you really know landscape and have access to local knowledge. I go to the keys 1-2 times a year, but we mostly freedive (snorkel). Way more interactive and its impossible not too see fish doing that.

Thanks SC Fish. I’ll look at their site and take it into consideration. I bet that was a good trip with getting away from the cold temps here during the winter.

Would you recommend another area, such as the keys? Or could I get away with some decent bottom fishing?
