Hey yall um going to Florida next week to do some fishing with smitty 123 on this site. Were taking the kayaks down and gonna fish the mangroves mostly, some (sand?) Flats by the mangroves, docks possibly and seawalls in the current. I’ll be targeting gator trout, mangrove snapper, SNOOK, and redfish if all else fails. I’m also bringing spinning gear and am taking my fly rod as kind of a last minute thing. I have an 8 Wth with 90yds of floating line and 75yds of backing. What kind of flies would you guys throw at these fish along the mangroves and stuff for them? Also it even worth bringing it? I mean is a snook or big trout just gonna take me into the mangroves and be gone? Also wooly huggers for LM right, supposedly some big un’s in his neighborhood pond. What color? Thanks guys!

You hook a good Snook around the Mangroves it won’t matter how much backing you have. It will be all you can do to stop him from going in the trees.

Bubble head poppers, gummy minnows and the usual crab patterns, along with what Ken said have all worked for me down there. If you are going after snook, better make sure your reel has a drag you can almost lock down without burning it up or popping the line on the strike…those are some bad fish otf. Which side are you going to?
