Florida to Bahamas by boat

Leaving from LakeWorth to West End. 55 mile trip. Can’t find a running buddy to go . Thinking about going solo . Wife thinks I’m crazy . Boat is 26’ SeaPro W/A with twin 150 Yamahas. Only leaving dock if seas are calm. Any experiences to share ?

That’s not a far run. You can easily do that. I would keep going to port Luyca.

We use to do it solo all the time (15 years ago) in a 272 GW Sailfish. Also did it once in a 20’ BW with a 7.5hp emergency kicker. As long as you are experienced, watch the marine weather, and believe your boat to be in good shape, you are fine. I would recommend a PLB on board, and float plan with action plan filed with friends and family.

Make sure you understand the winds and current in the Gulf Stream. If seas get rough and you have to cruise at a slow speed, you will be surprised how much the drift will alter your heading.

I also recommend everyone have backup GPS (like Navionics) on your phone. Only cost $15 a year, and las long as you have preloaded the charts works with or without cell signal.

22’ Carolina DLV - For Reel

We are crossing on June 26, staying through the week of the 4th. Headed to Elbow Cay. This will be our 3rd trip. Just watch the weather and if you cross on a Saturday, you will have plenty of company.
