Heading from Jupiter or Lake Worth to West End, Bahamas. 55 mile
trip . Will be in 26’ SeaPro W/A with twin Yamaha 150’s. Can’t find a good running buddy to go in June. Thinking about going solo. Wife thinks I’m crazy. Kept promising her I will only cross if seas are calm .Any experiences appreciated
I haven’t done it, but also interested in going there or Bimini around September
Go to Florida Sportsman Forum, check under the Tropics section.
Ask if anyone is crossing over and wants a buddy boat, lots of guys there look for buddy boats.
make sure u bring extra fuel. saw some guys running together & one ran out. other guy had to go get fuel & bring back to him.
MartiniMan, gnrhil on the SeaPro (and HullTruth)forum has made that trip a few times in his 22 SeaPro. He is currently plan a trip in the next few months. He is traveling from Hinesville, GA

Years ago, I knew a guy that would cross solo from Stuart to the Bahamas on a regular basis in a 17ft. center console. Crazy f***er made it back every time.

Cracker Larry did it several times in his homemade 17’ CC. Man I would have loved to be on one of those trips. The stories you would have heard.

I’ve made the crossing several times. I’m currently in the Bahamas now as well, it’s awesome.
I would do it solo on a nice day with a wide weather window. You can bet I’d have a PLB and a sat phone strapped to my waist and a good life raft as well. Things can change fast out there, and you won’t have a spare set of hands to help fix something if it breaks.

How long does it take to get across? Sounds like an awesome trip in good conditions.

I have made the run from Boynton Beach or Ft. Liquordale many times. West End is about the closest port with reasonable customs facilities. Make sure you are aware of ALL Bahamian customs laws and understand your boat’s fuel consumption needs. Be prepared to pay as much as double the US price for gas for the return trip. Also buy the Sea Tow unlimited tow package before you go. I have seen them come all the way to Bar Harbor and tow a 25 ft back to Florida as part of the deal. Don’t expect to find grocery stores and shopping malls. If you might need it, take it with you! I could go on for hours about how to or what to do. I expect the best advice is DON’T GO ALONE YOUR FIRST TRIP. Run with a group or at least with someone who has made the trip several time before. From Boynton Beach to West End will take about two to three hours in good weather. Think about it this way. Going to 500 feet of water here, fishing all day and coming home is like going to the Bahamas and returning round trip without stopping. Good luck.
