Florida vs Louisiana

Hey everyone. Was hoping some fellow yak anglers may have some insight as to where a great place to take the yaks for a long weekend of camping and fishing. I’m debating between Florida and Louisiana. Just curious if anyone has ever been and if so, where are some good places? Thanks!

I have been on a few of the rivers on the west coast of FL…Weekiwachie, Crystal and another I spell worse than Weekiwachie. All were beautiful to paddle and I recall several campsites in the area. Not sure about the fishing but I bet the FL Dept. of Wildlife has stuff on their website and I would google kayak paddling in FL. Probably more likely to get warmer weather in FL this time of year.

if yo have any interest in georgia okefenokee swamp (very south georgia)is pretty nice. you should be able to do plenty of bass/bream fishing and the campgrounds there were decent from what i remember.

Back in October I went to the Boondoggle at Big Lagoon State Park near Pensacola. This was great place caught my first Spanish mackerel in the gulf.

Mosquito Lagoon FL, Sebastian Inlet state park in the backcountry area. Indian River/Banana River lagoons the NMZ(no motor zone) is fantastic

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

you could fish the marshes around Jax for years and never explore it all
Panama City Beach, very kayak friendly, Pensacola area is too

Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!

I appreciate the responses. I should have classified, I’m looking for saltwater fishing. I forgot about mosquito lagoon

Go to Florida, Louisiana is a long haul!!

Mosquito Lagoon area is awesome fishing, but camping is limited. If you go over to the north end of the lagoon, around New Smyrna Beach, there are lots of primitive island sites you can camp on.

A few other places to look at are:

Sebastian Inlet Area, there is a state park and a private park, both with great camping.

Cedar Key/Suwannee area. Lots of areas to camp, and some pretty cool waters with little pressure.

Jax Beach/St Augustine area. More state parks, lots of intracoastal and ocean fishing around.

Fernindina/Cumberland Island area.

cdooley40 - Wow 38" trout thats a beast! - My biggest trout is from that area as well (Terra Ceia Bay) - Firefighter, I think there is a camp ground in Fort Desoto - very cool place to kayak. I’d really like to get back down there soon.

Thanks Dave, I think a buddy and I are going to make a 3 day weekend out of it sometime in April. Still back and forth on which place to try for the first trip down there

You can’t go wrong with Mosquito Lagoon/Indian River/Banana River areas. Beacon 42 is a great launch point for Mosquito Lagoon, Haulover canal is another good spot to launch for either Mosquito Lagoon or Indian River. KARS park on Merritt island is in the No Motor Zone of the banana river, and a great place to launch also.
