Flounder catch and release tournament in april

On April 29, 2023, the Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers Association will be hosting it’s 20th Annual Flounder Tournament.

Many anglers and their families consider this the official start of spring and we are hoping you would like to take part in this great event. Our Tournament is the first large scale fishing tournament of the year in Murrells Inlet.

Early bird entries must be postmarked before April 17, 2023 for discounted entry fee. Information can be found in the link at the bottom of this post.

The largest flounder caught and released alive takes home first prize of $1,500.00. The tournament has a total of over $5,000.00 in prizes and that does not include the basket raffles. The proceeds from this event help us continue our support of the SCDNR Reef Program which has so far received $80,000 in donations from GSSAA and proceeds also help us to contribute to the Coastal Carolina University Scholarship fund for Marine Science students and other charitable organizations.

About Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers Association Monthly Meeting on the second Thursday of the month at the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club beginning at 6:30 pm, dinner at 630 pm. Meetings include: Speakers • Potluck dinners, raffles and prize drawings • Sign ups for monthly species fishing contests (club members only)with good cash payouts • Opportunity to meet with other anglers for fishing and arranging trips, etc. GSSAA holds monthly fishing contests targeting specific species for club members only, as well as holding numerous Pier Tournaments and two All Species Tournaments throughout the year. GSSAA sponsors the Annual Flounder Tournament in Murrells Inlet every spring with a first place $1500 payout and Tagged Flounder prizes. The club is very active with family socials supporting fish frys, a summer club picnic and a Christmas party. Everyone has a chance to be an active part of an organization that supports Conservation of marine life enhanced fishing opportunities through financial support of various reef programs and financial support to local students through a Marine Science Scholarship Fund established for local students attending CCU. This and additional fishing opportunities are available for annual dues of only $40.00 for the full year, (husband, wife and children under 18 years old), prorated during the year. I don’t fish murrells inlet a whole lot.
And I’m kind of hit and miss on the flounder. If fatrat were to come out. At least we know we would put some flounder in the boat.

I love to see the growth of the catch and release tournaments in Murrell’s Inlet and other areas. There is absolutely no reason anymore to have a kill tournament for inshore species. This flounder tournament is proudly supported by Release Over 20 with apparel (for prizes) and decals for all participants.

Another great tourney up there is the Speckled Studs live release trout tournament in December.
