Flounder Fillet

many of the flounder I fillet have these black spots in them. I assume they are some type of parasite? Do y’all see the same? Most fish are caught in the harbor.

There is a parasite called “black spot” but I have usually encountered it on the skin side of the fillet after skinning. If that is what it is, then its harmless after thorough cooking. The “black spot” parasites I have dealt with were pinhead size and more numerous than pictured here. Also I have seen it only in freshwater fish, I don’t know if it is also a saltwater phenomena.

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.

Free protein.
You haven’t died yet so, no need to discuss with wife/family unless you want them to stop eating fish.

I have seen blackspot in crabs in years past but not in flounder…much smaller than your picture and more of them… I’ve also seen raw crab look cooked on white…not opaque when raw… creeped me out

Extra protein, doesn’t hurt.

Still 1000x better than what you’ll get in most stores.

Go clean you an AJ and then lets talk about extra protein!

Or a winter trout.

I like to cut the spots out just to make me feel better.
