Went out to Clark sound today (Sunday) hoping to catch some flounder for dinner. Well, didn’t catch any flounder but also couldn’t keep the redfish off the hook! Nothing much happening until the tide turned. As soon as the tide started coming back in, I had redfish after redfish on the hook. The first one had to be 3ft! I swear!! It took me about 5 min. to get it near the boat and each time it got close, it turned and took off! I finally had it turned and it seemed to be tired out. As I was getting it closer to the boat, holding the net between my knees, I grabbed the line at the end of the rod (big mistake), to bring the fish close enough to scoop it up in the net. The fish snapped his head and bam, snapped the line!! (**(), right at the boat. Lesson learned, don’t grab the monofilament when you’re trying to land a big redfish! While I was re-rigging that broken line, the other line went screaming. Another red, this time it was a 27 incher (picture). Released him, and while I was re-baiting the third line went off!!! This time it was a small red about 10in. This kept going on, line after line…lost about three of them as they cut me off on the shells. Landed a 24" then decided to call it quits!!! My arm was tired!! Tried some more for flounder but no luck…Final tally was probably 7 red fish, 1 sting ray, 1 blue fish. All of them caught in Clark sound!
water temp 80
south west winds
from low tide until about two hours after
cut mullet and minnows (under a float and on the bottom)
That sounds like FUN!
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
