Flounder Giggin'

Any flounder giggers on here? Looking for some advice. I’m new to the sport and I’m going out this weekend. I’ve got the lights and all the gear but I haven’t been able to find much of anything online about giggin in Charleston. NOT looking to raid your favorite honey hole, just need some help so I don’t get skunked. Thanks!

“I don’t want no mates, there’s just too many captains on this island. $10,000 for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole (**() thing.”

“…be a man and PM me.”

Biggest thing I can say is learn to spot the flounders outline instead of a horseshoe crab, Don’t go during a full moon or new moon, stay away from boat traffic, pick a slack tide, and if you are in doubt it is a legal limit pass it by. Oh yea, if you are unfamiliar with the area scout it heavy during the day.

Good luck & Welcome to the site!

According to my information, this weekend (Friday the 13th) is a King Tide - right at about dark time. I’m no expert, but…

Gigging is similar to fishing and hunting. You gotta put in your dues scouting and trying different areas.

Know (very well) and be comfortable with your area. Around here, things look totally different on the water between high and low tide. This is only amplified when it gets dark.

Double check all safety gear, make sure you’re good on gas, and bring some spare lights.

Little hint - if you don’t have a chart plotter on your boat, drop pins using your cell phone to mark waypoints. This helped us out tremendously last weekend.

awe hell no. you gonna start this again?

I’m a firm believer that “King Tide” was a term created by some Yankee and sure don’t remember that term when I was growing up. However, that’s exactly what it says on the tide chart about 6 inches from my head on my office wall, adjacent to my last mug shot.

Regardless, there’s no way that this thread about gigging and king tides will reach the asininity or lengthiness of the global warming thread, so relax Pea…

Pod, where did you first comment go? It was actually great advise… did you get threatened with being banded again?
