Several months ago I was able to pick up a Hammer Head Jon boat from a friend and figured I would build it strictly for gigging. I have been working on it off and on the past month or so and have finally got it like I want. I got word from a gigging friend that the flounder are starting to move it.
Day one
Found a brand new trailer but didn’t have a wrench, ended up having to weld one up to make it work…
hey david; that is one hell of a job. looks super. by the way. have you found the title for the mfg jon boat yet. i am looking to trade it for a 14 footer and it will be easier with the title. .
Bobby I didn’t find it but talked with DNR a week or two ago. Im going by there today to register the boat and I’ll see what else I need to do to get it. They mentioned taking a few pics of it all around, one of the vin and then they would be able to give you a title to it.
Very nice rig. I would try gigging but it would just be one more thing I can’t find the time for. Shoot, I even have a jonboat/motor at home that would be perfect.
When I did my jonboat restoration last year, I had to advertise the boat/motor description in the newspaper and submit specific paperwork to get a title/registration since the original paperwork had been lost many years before.
As for using NCIC. the FBI has cracked down on “unauthorized” use of the NCIC system. It used to be easy to run stuff but there are justification codes that must be used and they will audit your dept. Unauthorized inquiries get punished.
Hurricane,
I can run just the vin to check and see if it’s stolen or reported stolen. IF you want to find out details about the boat, you can actually go to DNR’s website and they have a new search engine that will bring up all the history on the boat. I was told today that if you have an older boat with no paper work, simply take pictures of it all around and a pic of the VIN and you can apply for a new title. This boat was a brand new 2011 so I didn’t have an issue with it.
Im all about taking people gigging as long as you have your own spots to go too!
Hey palmettotrooper, I recognize this shop. Engineeered Metals & Composites (EMC). I didn’t realize we knew the same folks. I used to work for Ed.(shop forman & prototype mgr. for 10 yrs)I’ve seen your boat in there when I’ve gone to get some of my materials. I bet Walt helped with some of your fabrication. Looks good!
On a sad note, did you hear that Ed’s wife, Sherry lost her battle with cancer & passed away Wed. night? At least she’s no longer in pain. She will be missed by all.

Hey Bob…
Ed and I spent the day together yesterday trying to get everything sorted out. The visitation will be at 12 tomm at greenlawn funeral home.
ED taught me everything I know, I’ve been over there the past several years and I couldn’t ask for a better friend. Ed told me that he introduced us before, I just can’t remember. Yeah, Walt has helped me A LOT too. He has so much on his plate that its forced me to learn how to weld better in order to get my stuff done. The grill I built came from Ed too…You recognize the top?
One day when your not busy, give me a shout and we can hook up. Ed and I just bought a pontoon boat that we plan on turning into a two story party barge!!!
