When do people start doing well gigging? A buddy of mine just got a nice duck boat with a mud motor, and now that duck season is over he’s dying to get out and use it. The only times that I’ve been gigging is in the late summer. Whats the earliest ya’ll have done any good?
The earliest I have seen consistant numbers around Edisto is mid-April. It usually coincides with the water getting into the 60s but there have been reports of people catching a few now, so who knows. They may come in really early this year.
Dont wait on flounder! Bass and Sheepshead are everywhere right now. A little tougher but as long as you can judge the legal length and pull the trigger a little quicker you’ll love it.
Umm, per, my understanding it’s illegal to gig reds or trout through February.

IOP to Bulls Bay area. The slot comment was for the flounder, but there where reds every where and any size. We had pods of 50-100 schooling all around us and crashing the banks. Nothing like watching 30" fish in large numbers cruising inches from the bow of your boat. And yes it is illegal to gig/arrow spottail and trout from January through February.
