Flounder Gigging

Looking for places to go gigging. I have been a couple of times this year without any luck. I keep hearing of people limiting when they go out but i cant find any spots that are productive. Any advice is appreciated.

No offense, but you won’t get anyone telling you where they gig. There are already too many people gigging now. All I can tell you is that you’ll have to spend the time on the water exploring.

That was funny right there. If you tell people exactly where to fish, you are most definitely Not A Redneck.

If someone just tells you where to fish how is it fun? Or am I just one rare people who finds more joy in finding the fish than just catching them easily?

Merles inlet. place is covered up in doormats

Some people expect everything to be easy nowadays. You can learn everything you need to know on the Interweb without paying your dues. Go stick a boat full. You ain’t going to learn it from me, though.

Castles, the unwritten rule on cf.com is that you don’t give away or talk about fishing spots. All the well known fishing spots are tightly held secrets by everybody. Even posting pictures that give away a good fishing hole is a no-no.

So no insult to you, you have a low post count, you didn’t know not to ask…hang around read what you can, get involved and have fun, get all the advice you can on techniques, baits, equipment and you’ll be fine here. Good luck.

This might be helpful, castles.
An eye for seeing them and a proper puncture about the head is priority # 1 for you, I’d bet.
Try some sandy banks @ L. tide. Get out of yer boat with a spot light and work your way with the last of the outgoing tide. Est. 1 hr. and work it til 1 hr. of incoming. Sandy shores on either side of inlets are good as well as strips on the ICW. Closer to the ocean as possible. Some flounder work the tides from surf to creeks then back out. They’ll cruise the banks inching their way back out, stopping frequently, huntin’ mud minnows etc. If you take yer runs down current, yer more apt to blind them cause they’ll have their nose in it or pointed to bank. This is a good start to hone sight and stickin’ skills. Save mud and dock pilings for later. Lot of misses in mud. Harder to see too. Clearer water and sandy bottom are great proving grounds.

Castles, didn’t your Dad show you!

It’s hard out there and I didn’t learn much about saltwater fishing in Tennessee. I came here thanks to the military. First few time out I was excited to see flipper, now hate it when shrimping. I read all these post hoping to get some tips but the best info I get seems to be at the dock putting the boat in.

You’ll almost always get the best advice on the water. The local tackle shops will help out too with local knowledge and techniques and gear. Most won’t help you out with location though.

Was at Folly last week and went gigging one night but only saw small flounder in the river and creeks. Still looking for some of those door mats that I keep seeing pictures of.
Be back in August to try again. Thinking about hiring a guide to take us gigging when I am back in August. Any suggestions?
