You got that right about the changes. Ummm…I really don’t have too much of an opinion about the shrimpers. They are trying to make a living too. If I did go out on a limb about shrimpers, it would be about the bycatch. Even there, I’m on the fence a little bit. Although the shrimpers kill alot in bycatch, the bycatch is recycled and benefits other species. I’m do not know how much the bycatch damages our resources, so I’m not going to speculate very far into it. Sells said it right: if you don’t have proof, then leave it alone…or something along those lines. But, the flounder study was shady. One species of flounder was on a slight increase while another species of flounder was on a slight decrease. I guess that was enough justification to change the limit. 15 flounder is still a lot of flounder to clean at one time. I’m alright with a 15 flounder limit.

skeeter…I totally agree with you that its near impossible to keep up with the many changes in regulations these days…and sometimes even the regulation books themselves aren’t clear
I wasn’t arguing about that with you at all…just got my dander up about shrimping I guess…
and sells…I hope what you say does not come true…sad to me…and esp sad for seafood markets like yours who will no longer carry fresh LOCAL shrimp for their customers.
sad…

Personally I’d be happy to boat 10 big flatties. But, since I have to WORK and LIVE out of Charleston, and I would like to KEEP 20 flatties during my 1 day out once in awhile, I think DNR’s limits are poo poo for some (like me) but necessary (for some others). Personally, I like gigging em, that is fun as heck!
When the game warden comes calling, don’t get a negative attitude. 95 percent of these folks are great people and are just trying to do their job. Be courteous to them and listen, they will not tell you where the fish are. However, they may drop a hint or two. If we didn’t have DNR we would not have any fish or game. Greedy folks would wipe out the population. Furthermore, will there be fish for your grand children to catch, I say no. Give the DNR folks a pat on the back and thank them for the job they are doing.
Oh, I agree with you except for one point you made. You stated, “95 percent of these folks are great people and are just trying to do their job.” I don’t want them “trying” to do their job. I want them to DO their dang job and be efficient and effective at their job. Do or do not, there is no try.

They still have not updated the regs on the website. DNR, they suck again!

I will not ever thank them for the job they are doing…unless it is worthy of thanking. It ain’t always so however. Period.
