Flounder Sheeps and Sea Bass on Nearshore Reefs

I have heard that in the wintertime, the Sheepshead and the Flounder migrate out to the reefs and the Sea Bass come in to spawn. Is this true?
If so, what is the best way to target them, specifically the Sheeps and flounder?
Any advice is appreciated

First thing you need when out at the nearshore wrecks is a reef anchor. I saw some advertised in the classifieds. I keep a 3 ft piece of pipe on my boat to bend the prongs back into shape after each use. The reefs are a blast. If you can get over some structure you will find some action!

What kind of rigs would you use? Not to much the rod/reel but the bait setup. Carolina rig, dropper loop, etc?

Either rig will work… plenty of fish swimming around - even at the nearshore. We were using our sheepshead setups - 3000 series reels, 15# braid, 1oz egg sinker, 20# mono/floro leader to a #1 hook. Dropping down some fiddlers produced BSB, Sheep and Black Drum - cut menhaden was getting nice weakfish and a big red - but the reds are probably further out now.

How big are the BSB on the nearshore this time of year

Last time out in early December - we managed 4 keepers up to 15"… out of what seemed like 100’s of fish.

Anybody know anything about flounder out there?

whats the water temp look like out there right now? I can’t seem to find anything for Kiawah nearshore.

Water temp was 52 out there today.

are the sheeps out there yet? I may head out tomorrow either way to find out. This morning the water looked like glass in the harbor. So depressing having to go into work.

What bait are you using for a monster like that?

we got some on shrimp but the big one ate a lil fiddler crab

Fished inshore today, big one was only 16.5"…

I got out Saturday. Only my second time out to the nearshore reefs.
More BSB than I could throw a stick at. Lots if keeper size. I got my 2 person limit easy.
At one point just to try, I pulled one to about 10 ft and let it sit.
Then tossed a zman at the dozen that followed to the surface. I hooked one on the Z and
a second one grabbed the z tail. Both came in the boat. Then I still had the other.
All 3 were keeper size although I was already completed out.
Aggressive little suckers.

I also 3 sheeps. Biggest was 19"
