Flounder trout

Does anyone catch flounder in the winter? I know other places catch flounder in the winter and they’re the same kind as ours. Also does anyone catch big trout in the winter? Just wondering because I don’t catch either in the winter.

Landed a 23" trout Jan 20th just after high on the falling tide on the Wando. Have not seen any keeper flounder just little ones this time of year. Most headed out to sea. I typically see that if I am catching dink trout then the big ones are not around.

Trout- yes
Flounder- no
But then again I’ve never been good at targeting flounder with success no matter what time of year it is. But I am pretty successful at catching trout all year long. The big trout for me in the winter and few and far between, mostly small or barely big enough to keep so I just let them swim off to get bigger.

Our club members have caught a handful of flounder in January but most of them winter nearshore or offshore

Caught one in the surf a week or two ago

You can catch them here or there but not plentiful in the winter, Wait until April or so and they’ll pick back up.

I caught a 12 inch flounder a few weeks back in my kayak. I was fishing a creek that empties into the harbor. Slimz from Zman was the lure.

My biggest, 24" was this time of year on a jig at nearshore out of BFT.

When the water temperature drops below 60° the flounder headed offshore to around 100 feet to spswn. They will come back in once the water gets above 60°. There are always some stragglers in the river though.
