Ok, I finally got everything I need for inshore. Just put a trolling motor and power pole on my 2012 Caroline Skiff. For the past year my son and I have been stuck anchor fishing with live bait mostly in MI and Gtown. Now with the new additions we are excited about trolling and doing more with artificial. With the flounder coming in we’d appreciate any advice on trolling for flounder? Thanks
go as slow as possible, and most still troll with live bait, although you can use grubs/jugs/gulps etc also.
Why do u think flounder are flat with both of there eyes on one side,
on the bottom, <1mph
I use a top and bottom rig when trolling and some days the top rig gets bit the most. I usually drag mud minnows but often times I’ll stick either a chartreuse or pink gulp swimming mullet on the top hook. I think it attracts the flounder from further away. There’s been days when that top hook with the gulp on it outfishes a live mud minnow, believe it or not.
I always have one rod with a 1/4oz jig head with a mud minnow stuck on it dragging behind the boat. That rod sits in a rod holder and often times is high hook for the day.
There are other tricks involving slip floats etc. that we’ll save for another day.
def use a top bottom rig now. the inlet is covered with snot grass and the bottom minnow will prob. stay covered with grass all day.
Ill probably be out there on Saturday targeting some flounder as well. Hope too see you out there and if i do well tip one back.

Saw some evidence that flounder have been laying up, and the first yellow butterfly, this morning. Won’t be long.
Speaking of evidence of spring where are the tent caterpillars? They are way behind schedule.
