Flounder

Anyone having any luck on the flounder bite? I catch a lot of trout and reds and see a lot of posts on trout and reds, but I’ve yet to come across a flounder and I don’t see many reports on folks catching flounder. I planning on going flounder fishing this weekend and could use a little encouragement and indication that they’re around.

Theyre around buddy caught a nice one about 18" last week. I have heard spotty reports. I saw some good gigging pics too. One trip had 4 real nice flatties…

Good luck!

They are definitely out there. If you target them specifically you should manage a few. For flounder I have always done had the most success by keeping my rig moving. They are an ambush predator and unlike trout and reds they sit and wait more than chasing down a meal. Not saying they won’t because I have caught them on suspending baits that were more than 3 feet off the bottom in some deep holes.

We have caught a few nice ones in recent trips. Seems that they have moved inshore in higher numbers in the last few weeks

We haven’t targeted them specifically, but we did manage a nice flattie (18") last Saturday in the Wando.

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.

Caught 7 yesterday afternoon on the incoming. Used mud minnows and Gulp! shrimp. Good luck. Few will post because the usual flounder hot spots become parking lots when they move inshore. It is ridiculous what some of us put up with to continue to try to relax while dragging for a flounder. All I can say is just because one can afford a boat, doesn’t mean they need one. There is little respect out there anymore. It’s almost like the spot run in the fall anymore!

Caught one the other day that came out of the water to grab my bait.

You said a mouthful right there…

Thanks for the words of encouragement y’all. I’ve done a lot of Flounder fishing at Cherry Grove SC and Ocean Isle Beach NC over the past 25 years. Looking forward to floundering around here this weekend, doing some prospecting, and seeing how it goes.

Remember to let them run with it. Flounder short bite so I flip my bail, give a 3 count then jerk or use a circle hook and wait a bit longer

My dad used to say that if you feel a flounder biting you should smoke a cigarette before you try to set a hook.

My buddy caught a 4.5 lb flounder last week. They’re around for sure.

Have caught two throwbacks this week. Here’s the smaller of the two.

Awesome ■■■■■■■■ and reports.

Caught one today on a doa shrimp but it was very small. I also caught something Ive never seen before. So Im pulling a man pearl tail on a trout eye jig over shells at mid tide and something grabs it and starts to run. Im in a kayak and struggling to get right with a strong wind blowing and mid tide ripping. All of a sudden a 5-6 ft shark jumps out the water and does a spin in the air and breaks the line. At first I thought it was a dolphin but looking back I think it was a shark. Have no idea what kind but it was at least 5 ft over oyster shells in a creek thats 3 ft deep. Anyway it was a dolphin? I didn’t think they would grab an artificial.

Spinners and black tips both jump and spin. If it spun quickly then more likely a spinner.

I caught 2 beauties on the out going a Bushy Park back to back then nothing but little trout. Great day last Sunday 17 and 18 inch flounder and 11 trout. Can’t complain about that! Can’t find the reds though. they have evaded me. Red jig head and White Gulp Swim mullet. Super clear water at Bushy right now. Use some Floro leader.
