Hey P-K. Do the standard knot and abrasion testing with most all castable fluoro on an instron machine before you LOL. No access to instron? Tie an overhand knot and pull. It’s a joke.

what model Instron you using to measure abrasion? I was unaware they had that capability, but its been a few years …

fwiw … I dont use leaders as a knot adds another point of failure to the system. Im indifferent to Fluro. I prefer other polymers. When I do use flouro, its only on casting reels. Ive honestly not had any issues casting or with knots. And Im not a fan of braid. Its too expensive and never saw the value. Different strokes …

Braid costs more up front but it lasts soooo much longer.

Yeah P-K. I don’t know much about the fishing industry. When you have access and input from the most experienced minds in the sport plus done your own independent testing, the conclusion is simple.

ultimately it is still your opinion. which is ok.

the fishing products industry is all about marketing, performance is a sidebar and pretty indistinguishable from like product to like product. that cant be denied

There’s no doubt that the marketing machine is at work with fishing tackle. But don’t feel bad, fishing tackle isn’t the only industry. It’s the same for tennis rackets, tennis strings, golf clubs, golf balls, football uniforms, snow skis, water skis, tennis shoes, baseball bats, and on and on and on and on. Yes, these things do change and improve over time, just not nearly at the rate that we’re told. But it’s still fun for everyone to use what they like and have their reasons to defend it.

Is there a noticeable difference between using a floro leader fishing artificials around here and tying directly to the braid? I never thought it would help since our water is so cloudy.

What works between your ears always works on the water! Ask any fisherman! What we think is always right!!! Ask my wife.

From what I’ve read about flouro, the only real advantage over mono (for leaders) is visibility. Where you might use a 6#-8# mono leader, you could use 20# flouro. Honestly though for me the 500%-800% incease in cost with only an advantage in visability, not to mention some of the challenges flouro can present for the beginer, it’s just not worth it…IMO.

Found this video, I have actually done this myself. Could not find a test like this with flouro. I might have to “borrow” some flouro a try it.

I asked because I’ve seen it with ice fishing, trout, crappie, snapper and I’ve had a few times I could see fish and they would not hit. Sometimes I will get into some crystal clear water, I’ve been sheep head fishing in the harbor and can see 8ft down and see fish actively eating and not get a nibble, I know they can see my line if I can see it, and you cant get a reaction strike on certain fish so you have to have stealth. I fish like 95% braid, been a braid guy for over a decade. Also shad fishing I got schooled big time and only difference was braid. My theory on a fishing expense is the time I will use it, If I by some expensive line lets say 30$ and I use it for 2 years lets say 300hrs 50 trips average 6 hrs, then its really not that expensive.
