I got me some 14# Berkley vanish fluorocarbon today to try on my bottom rigs. Just wondering if anyone else had tried it. And if its better than my normal mono leaders.
I wouldn’t floss my teeth with it. I have two spools of it and hate it. Spend a little extra and get some good stuff. I bought a spool of 15lb p-line and I love that stuff for leaders. I lost more than a few good fish on that vanish garbage.

Thanks for the heads up. Ive tried that p-line but the one I tried must have been rotten because it wouldn’t hold a knot. Break every time. My have to tried It again. I use trilene pro on my fly rod for leaders and loved it. Guess thats a better grade og Berkley.
its not flouro but i like that suffix tritanium.

How did your leader cause you to lose fish?
Caught 7 Reds and 2 Flounder yesterday using 20lb Vanish as a leader.

For the most part, I don’t think you need Flouro around here. Water isn’t that clear.

Flouro is not just good because it is virtually invisible but it holds up better. I had some Spanish rigs & some were made from mono & some from flouro and the flouro ones held up 3 times as long before they broke from the teeth.
I like P-line.
quote:First of all, I had the 14lb vanish and was using it for leaders for stripers on murray. I lost over half the fish I hooked up to because it wouldn't hold a knot. Tried several different knots with similar results. Also lost some good reds because of the same problem. Switched to p-line and never had a problem.

I don’t bother with flouro for inshore, but I use Seaguar flouro for leaders on Lake Murray and haven’t had any issues with it.

Been using 20lb vanish for two years on all my leaders. The only time I’ve had one break was when hung on structure. Uni to uni on braid to flouro and improved clinch or palomar knot on flouro to tackle.

Well i’d probably switch too. A lot of fishing is just what you have confidence in based on your own experiences.

It’s all I use.
I tried Vanish and had the same problems with knots breaking. If you want to stick with Vanish try the fishermans (cinch) knot but double loop it.
Thread the line into the hook eye, then send it through again creating a loop
twist the tage around the main line 7 times
go through the double loop you created
then back through the last loop.
This will give you double lines at the eye and help prevent knot breaks.
Sorry for the crappy description.
caught 11 flatties last week 2 keepers.
yo-zuri floro 30# snelled 5/0circle with a 2-3oz bank sinker on a slow drift…
i buy it by the 500yd spool on flea bay… once you go past the 30#test it starts to get memory off the spool and is considerably stiffer once you hit the 60lb floro… i have tried pink, green, clear… i personally like the pink/clear. i use the 60lb green at the jetty’s have had 0 issues with knot strength.
The vanish worked just fine. Caught 16 flounder and several black drum. Fished the same two leaders all day.
I’ve used p line and the batch I had was junk on knot strength. Threw in trash. Vanish worked ok and a lot better But nothing compares to Seaguar Premier in my opinion. The blue Label
is great also. Premiere is worth it.
I have found that I need fewer wraps when tying a hook or swivel to flouro with a clinch knot, and it holds great. 20 lb flouro: 5 wraps, 40 lb flouro: 4 wraps, 60 lb flouro: 3 wraps.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
I use trick fish flouro found a spool at the landing one day and did the job well so bought some more but it’s kind of pricey.
