I am planning on coming home to Charleston this weekend and want to try and fish, especially if the weather is as nice as predicted. Anyone had an recent luck with the spottail? If so, what flies did they seem to be interested in?
Anything small and dark should work, if the water is clear. If it’s muddy, go with something with a little flash to it.
Simple Chartreuse/White Clouser worked fine in clear water. They didn’t want the Brown/White Clouser.
Have been catching Reds on black clousers.
Hook: Tiemco 811s size 2.
Thread: Danville’s 210 Denier flat waxed nylon
Black bucktail upper body and lower.
Real-Eyes gold color 7/32 with red 3D eyes.
Gold Krystal flash or gold mixed with red.
Tied about 3 to 4 inches long.
I use more flash for Redfish than for any other fish,
maybe a dozen or so pieces of gold flash sticking out past the end of the bucktail half an inch or so.

Caught em on this same exact fly in the last week. Tucker caught one on a grey rabbit fur creation…I think it was grey or olive but either way they crushed it after a few simple strips.

Thanks for ya’lls help. I’ll have to tie a couple before I head down to Charleston and fish again. I’ll let ya know how they work.
