Hey guys and girls Ive been fly fishing for a while and I know I keep making posting about advice. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for a fly fisherman during the winter. Some tips on fly patterns and where to locate the fish would be great. I don’t have a boat yet so i have to fish the bank.
Well you’re not gonna like this… but without a boat (kayak, canoe, flats boat, anything) you’re not gonna be doing much if any fly-fishing during the winter months. The fishing in the winter is primarily around lowtide… which means creeks, or flats… but most certainly means pluff mud and oysters… not wading territory… Sorry bud… but hang in there, it’ll be summer before you know it.

What he said.
When I first started I’d go to my summer wading spots at lo-mid tide and walk out (short grass/hard bottom) to where the creek came to a bowl before it would spill on to the flat…I didn’t slay them but I still caught a few…something to do this time of year anyway…good luck. Be careful with tides/mud…some flats fill from the back, so it might be dry way out in the middle, but 3 feet of water in the ‘channel’ between you and the truck before you know it!

I appreciate the advice I went out today near Shem creek and caught some flounder off the dock.
