Going out with some buddies to capers to sheepshead fish this weekend and I want to bring my 8 wt along to throw around. Any tips, tricks, or fly patterns would be appreciated.
For this time of year specifically
Find schools of Redfish (visually) on low tide mud flats.

Oh. Can’t help you there. Not my bag baby.
Were it me, I would try to chum up some seabass and toss poppers to them.
A long long slow walk in the spartina gives you time to think big thoughts and put your mind back into order.

If you hook a black sea bass(regular tackle}, a small group of other BSB usually will follow their hooked partner up. A little chum could help. A 5 wt. with float or intermediate line would handle them. A full sink line, a short cast over reef, feed loops of slack out, let sink near bottom. A short strip, you will hook’em. Cast up current almost like a river. Perhaps a time at bottom or top of tide with give you a slower current.
