Anyone know when they start swimming up the tail race ? Would love to try them out this year. A few months ago i saw Conway bowman did a episode of his show there and it looked fun.
havent been , but they should be there by now
I have it on good authority that they are there now.
It’s a blast but a sinking line is a must.

that thing you get just moments after you needed it.
Small and chartruse… really doesn’t matter…
I tie on Eagle Claw Aberdeen #4 and #6 hooks… no sense wasting a good hook on a shad…
Also, you want to make them heavy… lead eyes, and a lead wrapped shank will make sure they get down…
Here are some of mine… they work like a champ…

I’ll bite…those are good looking shad flies. Do you use a sinking line too?

Roger- I still use a 200 grain sink head line… not a full sink, just a 15’ sinking head… the full sink gets a little too far down, but these babies sink like rocks as it is so they get down fast the line just makes sure the’re being retrieved in the proper manner…

Correction…I have a 250gr 26ft sink tip (Rio Striper) and not a full sinking line. Someone let me know when they show up.

Talked to a guy tonite said he and a partner caught 100 over last weekend. he is a pretty solid source
Mike is right, the flies are not complicated. Go with small, colorful, weighted, and cheap. I mostly use chartreuse or orange, but haven’t noticed that the other colors I used worked any worse. They aren’t feeding, just react. Where I fish there are a lot of snags so you lose a good bit of flies which is why you want cheap ones. I got some jig heads at Basspro and tied them like a clouser and they worked fine.
I plan on living forever, so far so good

OOS Boy…still trying to get it all together to make that intro without getting a “gdiaf”. No problem on the time cause at this point, I probably won’t make it down till the weekend of the fft on 2/28 or so. Please tie me 1/2 doz of those and another 1/2 doz of another color of your choice, or just a dozen of those if you lack the creative juice that’s being sucked out of you by nursing exams…
by the way, you have any experience on the Wautagar in TN? Buddy trying to get me to go up in April and kayak some stretch behind the dam in E’town.

Yeah… Many years ago I spent quite a bit of time around “E-town”… my info would be all but usless at this point… but I can put you in contact with the right people for sure… I’ll see if I can’t round up some emails, and contact info… I’ll send it along when I do…
