Fly Fishing in Mosquito Lagoon

Just got back from a recent fly fishing trip in Mosquito Lagoon fishing with guide Capt.Nate Lemmon. It was 30 degrees to start the day off with winds blowing 10 to 20. Very clear water. Saw alot of schools just laying around the sand flats . So ended the day with 34 redfish on the fly all ranging between 6 to 10 lbs… What an awesome trip best slot of the day was a 26 1/2 that weighed 7 3/4 lbs…Thats a tourney winner anywhere…

Congrats. That place can humble you on days. You definately need a guide to show you how it is done. It is not uncommon to see hundreds of reds in a single day in 12" of water but getting them to eat is a different story.
Did you all fish the main lagoon or the backcountry?
Chris.

We fished the very south end where the water temp was about 55 degress…we fished the main lagoon…We saw tons of schools of fish all ranging from 30 to 50 fish…But there were all moving very slow because of the cold . We pulled one fish out for a pic and he curled up as soon as the air hit him… Some of the fish would strike several times before it was game on…And others would chase the hooked fish trying to get the fly…That was pretty cool to see…

How far south…

Good job because those can be some more finicky fish when they get a lot of pressure.

Tryin to go down there for the wando fishin club over spring break

Hopefully we do and get as lucky as you did

as i was told we were as far south as you could get…We left out of a landing called Oak Hill and headed south from there…it was about a 30 min ride…But also we were the only boat on the water…when we left it was my car and his truck and when we got back it was the same no one want to braqve the weather but days like that can sometimes be the best… If your looking for a guide the guy i used was very knowledgable and very eager to get you on the fish even in cold windy weather…Capt.Nathenial Lemmon with floridasightfishing…

I fished a school down there one summer that you could not get within 100 yards of. It was crazy how spooky those fish can be. That is a long run, 8 miles maybe. We usually put in at beacon 43, or whatever it’s called.
Sounds like he has them dialed in. I have fished with Capt Todd Fuller and he a great guide also.

nbk65, I hate those schools. You can have that school with another 500 yds away that will let you pick off one after another just as long as you gave them a few minutes to school up again. Go figure.

You were fishing the edge of the NASA boundary. Got buzzed by a chopper with a guy looking at me over a door-mounted machine gun on one trip down there…very unnerving to say the least.

We go down and camp on the spoil islands. A really cheap way to get after some big reds in shallow water.

I have been there when they had it shut down from Haul Over south due to launches. I would not step a toe over their line. They look like them mean business.
I have stayed at the KOA in Titusville, the airport in Orlando and driving down and back in one day more times than I can count. I would like to go down and camp and fish for several days on the water.

nbk, the spoil islands, get there first, website is www.spoilislandproject.org but they don’t show all of them. The website for the ML islands is http://nbbd.com/godo/cns/camping.html. and you need to reserve them. I like the island just south of the A Max Brewer Causeway in Titusviulle because it’s close to the ramp and tackle shops. Had plans to do the ML this past year but couldn’t get people to go. I liked #11, 13 and 14 based on the little harbors they all have. You probably used that public boat ramp that’s just a bit above Oak Hill.
